A 10.35X47mmR ITALIAN MODEL 1870 VETTERLI SINGLE SHOT CAVALRY CARBINE WITH BAYONET, CIRCA 1882, serial no. B1285,
with 17 1/2in. barrel stamped at breech with Italian proof and inspection stamps and makers mark 'TORINO', dated for 1882, fitted with block and blade front-sight and quadrant rear-sight, iron mounted walnut half stock, the butt stamped in large letters 'B1285', long bladed cruciform socket bayonet that locks around the fore-sight (when not in use is reversed and half the blade runs back into the fore-end)

Other Notes: The carbine features the noted Swiss Vetterli bolt action in single shot, apparently the Italians considered the cost of the tubular magazine system prohibitive so initially adopted the system as single shot only
